APRIL LYNN JAMES
MEZZO-SOPRANO |
|
"Beauty and Inspiration"—The New York TimesWelcome to the web site for April Lynn James, Mezzo-Soprano! I specialize in portrayals of such opera seria heroes as Handel's Ariodante (Ariodante), Mozart's Idamante (Idomeneo) and Rossini's Tancredi (Tancredi) along with their better-known standard repertory brethren such as Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) and Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier). I am a passionate proponent of operas composed by women, including the works of my dissertation subject, Maria Antonia, Electress of Saxony (1724-1780). Additionally, I am an oratorio soloist and an expert in baroque dance. Thank you for your interest and support. This is a constantly evolving site, so bookmark it and visit often! ********************************************** WE HAVE A DOUBLE WINNER! Earlier this year, I won an Individual Artist grant from the Queens Council on the Arts! The grant funded my October 2008 concert. To read the story that appeared in the January 23, 2008 edition of the New York Daily News, click here. And now, I am a 2008 Fellowship recipient from the Urban Artist Initiative/New York City! Two for two! Whoo-hoo! ********************************************** Upcoming Performances: Stay tuned! |
