Kristina A Semos
Soprano |
|
Kristina A. Semos is a cutting-edge soprano who uses her versatile voice to bridge the gap between yesterday’s traditions, today’s relevant social concerns, and the audience of tomorrow. A proud Greek-Texan, Kristina’s operatic repertoire includes such roles as die Königen der Nacht, Gilda, Lucia, Olympia, Violetta, Lauretta, Cunegonde and Mimi. She has performed with several companies, including Espresso Opera, Brooklyn Repertory Opera, Opera Lirica in Orvieto, St. John’s Performance Series, Westchester Summer Vocal Institute, and now Chelsea Opera. Most recently, Kristina provided the sound-scape for the New York Fashion Week runway show of Elisa Jimenez, PROJECT RUNWAY contestant. Kristina also opened a runway show for Brooklyn Fashion Weekend, not only sharing the stage with hip-hop star Kat De Luna, but also introducing opera to the hip, trendy crowd that gave her rave reviews. In 2006, she appeared as Belle Fortune in Brooklyn Repertory Opera’s production of A.F.R.A.I.D., a modern feminist opera by Susan Stoderl. The same year, she was seen in recital to benefit the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Perhaps the socially-conscious trend began in 2005, when Ms. Semos produced and starred in a dramatized recital work entitled “Sempre Libera – Always Free: An Aria Concert Against Queer Domestic Violence,” which raised funds for the New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project. An international traveler, she spent a year in Europe touring as a soloist with the University of Bologna’s chamber choir throughout Italy and England, and has sung in televised concerts at the Palazzo Dei Sette and Museo Claudio Faino in Orvieto, Italy. A clear choice to appear in high-profile events, Kristina has also given performances for Brown University’s televised Baccalaureate Service, and for multiple banquets in Dallas’ prestigious Hall of State. At home in musical theatre as well as opera, Ms. Semos has sung Carrie in Carousel, and the Baroness in Candide at Brown University, where she recently graduated Magna cum Laude with degrees in Music and Italian Studies. Now a resident of New York City, Ms. Semos can be heard at Café O’Neals across from Lincoln Center, and occasionally as a guest soloist at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in the West Village. She will appear as Meg in Chelsea Opera’s production of Douglass Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe in May, and will appear as Michaela in Espresso Opera’s production of Bizet’s Carmen in June. |
