O my gosh! Have you ever wanted to high five someone after you sang a duet with them? I SOOO wanted to after singing my first Mahler 2nd April 5,6,7 with Florida's stunning West Coast Symphony under brilliant Maestro Leif Bjaland and the goddess, diva, angel Kristen Clayton. Thank you to Scott George, my manager for making this golden moment possible. Next to singing the National Anthem at Dodgers Stadium, (Go BLUE! NEXT year for sure!) this has to top my golden career moments. I mean my MOM couldn't have written words like Ms. Williams wrote: " Guzman's voice is a balm for the earth's ills." Heaven! Roberta Martinez is just a nut! A wonderful wacky amazing women. Thank you for making me Grand Marshall of the Latino Heritage Parade. Conor and I got to ride in a vintage car, I got a hug from former Pasadena Mayor and Neighbor, Chris Holden and my beautiful sisters and friends the Carrolls gave me the RoseParade wave from the sidewalk on Washington Blvd. Check out the pics! In a nutshell here's a little update: Don't be Afraid It's just Opera! is going strong. Thanks to ALL of our extraordinary schools this past month. We are meeting so many wonderful opera-ophiles to be! Beginning a whirlwind season with Marriage of Figaro in Dallas, LTC'S Virgen de Tepeyac at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels AND at the Los Angeles Theater Center, West Coast Premiere of GRAPES OF WRATH with Opera Pacific not to mention a world premiere of Maestro Tim Bruneaus' beautiful work "Where Love Abides" with the voices of the Desert Chorale (I always want to say "dessert" Chorale. They are THAT delicious! Heartfelt thanks to Maestro Steve Loza and a trip to Mexico City with the Mexico City Philharmonic and the world premiere of "America Tropical" a collaboration with UCLA, Mexico City, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the world reknowned muralist/activist Judith Baca. What a stunning piece made even more so by the astonishing murals of David Alfaro Siqueiros. You can now own the latest release of renowned cellist María Elena Gaítan, better known as "Chola con cello" with yours truly on the title cut of the recently released CD of alabanzas (Spanish hymns) entitled Amore de los Amores on sale wherever it is you buy cd's these days. What an honor to sing for California Governor Arnie and our first lady Maria Shriver as part of Puente Learning Center's anniversary. I got a chance to thank Lady Maria for choosing me to be a part of her exhibit in Sacramento! (See "ongoing" on the dates and places page). Watch for the repeats of CSI:New York: Episode 6: Murder Sings the Blues where I sang BUTTERFLY!! The great Oz Scott directed the Episode. More heaven. Save January 16, 17,18 2009 for LACHSA's production of URINETOWN at the Luckman Auditorium on the campus of CALSTATE L.A. featuring Conor Guzmán as Officer Lockstock with Sammy Lopez the San Gabriel Valley favorite, as Officer Barrell! If you have never seen a LACHSA production you CAN'T miss it. This season is a combo of being back on the road, Conor on the road for the first time (yes he is occasionally behind the wheel!), world-premieres, remounts, Christmas, a MOVIE for one of us....more to come on THAT front, and filling up our days with work, and practice and wondering when we are going to see YOU! Here is wishing with all my heart that your money was in an asbestos mattress and that you are young, young at heart, healthy and peaceful. Support all things acoustic except for the popcorny ceiling junk and that old foamy kind of tile. Please vote. Change, transition, new direction...it's all our own choice. Action and light. Count your blessings: One: es mi niño Two: you who read this! Three: looking forward to that glass of wine or cup of coffee I know we will have together soon. From our Hamilton House I send much love. Suzanna E-mail Me |
